Factors to Keep in Mind When Wiring Your Home

With electronics playing such a major role in our life, house wiring becomes one of the essential tasks of a newly constructed home. Not only must we see that the house is wired adequately, we must also ensure the full security, since a faulty wiring system is a catastrophe waiting to happen.

House wires India become even more important when you consider the importance of electrical implements in our life today. Can we really imagine a home without a wiring system? Today we need wires and cables to form their network so that we can pop in our toast, make a hot cup of coffee, warm our dinner, get some entertainment, keep ourselves cool/hot and to interact.

In short, electronics dominate all parts of our life and the network that makes it work is the wiring system of our home. It powers our gadgets and makes it accessible. Ideally we want our wiring to:

Be present in all key spots:

With the number of gadgets we use, we have to ensure that there are sufficient electric and power points in every room and even outdoors. Some rooms need a little extra. For instance, in a modern home, kitchens are always gadget heavy with a number of high power appliances, including microwave, oven, washing machine and refrigerator. So, carefully plan out the gadget distribution in all rooms.

Switchboard location:

Every room always has a switchboard next to its entrance so that one can switch on the light easily. But that’s not all. Today we need a number of other switchboards, as per the room and the distribution of electronics in the room. For instance, you have to decide where the TV will be placed in a living room or bedroom and design a cable system accordingly. Additionally, most rooms today will need more than a couple of switchboards. For instance, a bedroom would need a switchboard for lamp and mobile charging next to the bed, while a kitchen will need multiple switchboards to power kitchen gadgets.

You should also plan for the future and have more connections on the switchboard than you strictly require. You may need a few more gadget plugging-ins in the very near future! It will also free you from extension boards.

Providing for WiFi:

WiFi Cables are different from normal cables and their layout must be decided at the wiring stage. Pick a point which is has no barriers close by and is close to an opening. You need a point that is somewhere near the heart of the house, for the optimum spread of the signal. Also, decide if you need multiple router placements.

To childproof or not:

If you have a baby or toddler in the house, it’s a good idea to childproof your plug-points. This will ensure that the child cannot put his/her finger through the switchboard.

Aluminum or copper:

Wires are made of aluminum or copper. Most house wires India are made of copper. This is because copper has high current carrying capacity and can withstand fluctuations in temperatures, unlike aluminum. Although more expensive than aluminum, it is still fairly cheap.

Earthing:

The Indian power system runs on AC current. Compared to DC current, AC is more powerful with higher current carrying capacity. This also makes it quite dangerous in case of an overload or leakage. Earthing the wiring ensures that any leakage will simply seal into the earth, leaving the residents secure.

Main service panel:

This is like the electric nerve centre of your home. This is where we have the circuit breakers or fuses. The panel will also have the ‘main disconnect’ fuse. The panel is where you rush to when power suddenly trips in your home. The discount fuse is also used to switch off power in an emergency or when you need to shut down your home. It is usually placed in a discreet corner of the home, accessible, but not glaringly visible.

Budget

Wiring an entire home obviously depends on the extent of the network and the brand. Although there are a number of small firms with cheap wires, it is important that you make this investment carefully. Buy the best you can, since the wiring of a home effects the safety of your family. Also, always check the certification of Wires and Cables Manufacturers before buying.
