What You Need to Be an Entrepreneur

An entrepreneur is someone who runs or starts a business with more than the usual financial risks. They take risks and reap the rewards.

There are, however, some key character traits that you need to become a successful entrepreneur like David Walsh Bronxville, NY, founder and CEO of several major tech corporations.

Be a Self-Starter

You will need to be a self-starter. Being a self-starter is not the same as being ambitious. It is being able to motivate yourself, especially in the face of adversity.

You need to be able to keep yourself on track and goal-oriented. In other words, you have to have a mission and be prepared to carry out that mission.

Many people get lost in the lack of outside encouragement that entrepreneurs face.

Be an Innovator

Innovation is essential to being an entrepreneur. You have to be able to come up with new ideas that fill an existing need or desire. People like novel concepts.

In the 90s, Bronxville’s David Walsh came up with a different way to provide network services in under-serviced areas. This is what innovation is all about.

Be Passionate

You’ve probably heard the phrase follow your passions. This phrase is key to many who found their own businesses.

If you are not passionate about what you do, you might lack the motivation necessary to see it through.

Without that spark of passion about what you do, your business might never get any further than the planning stages.

Strong Networking Skills

Networking is a skill that is a requirement in business. It is the process of connecting with people who can help you further your business, and as you can further theirs.

Networking is a symbiotic relationship between businesses and people. In some fields and countries, it is essential for doing business of any type.

Having a network of people and businesses will help you gain investors, employees and clients.

Communication Skills

Starting a business requires investors, employees and clients. To convince people to join you in your endeavor, you need to communicate your goals, needs and passions.

You need to motivate your employees and convince clients to purchase your product or service. All of this takes excellent written and oral communication skills.

If you don’t have them already, you can work on developing them.

Be Flexible

Flexibility is another key trait. You will make mistakes, and it might seem like the problems are insurmountable.

You have to be willing to adapt and change with these developments. If you are flexible, you can modify your concept and business practices as obstacles come up.

Be Stubborn

Although being flexible and being stubborn seem counterintuitive. They are not. As an entrepreneur, you need to be stubborn enough not to quit when it gets tough, and it will get tough.

You will also need to be able to bring out the tenacity in other people, such as employees as well. They need to be just as motivated to make at work as you are.

All of these traits overlap and are intertwined. Although anyone can be an entrepreneur, you may have to work on developing them if you lack these traits.
